WORKSHOP "BROKEN CLOCK FOLK FUSION"

Broken Clock is Briohny May’s folk fusion format borne from years of folk fusion style choreographies and performances with live orchestras. Heavily influenced by East European folk dance and Jill Parker’s earthy and fluid movement, Broken Clock blends perfectly with Fat Chance BellyDance® and DaturaStyle™.

These steps and combos bridge the gaps between fast and slow music, suit unusual time signatures, and can be used for improvisation or choreography. In this workshop you will drill a selection of Broken Clock steps and combinations, and see them in action through improv and a short choreographic sequence to both 4/4 and unusual timing!

THAIS CARVALHO

(QLD)

WORKSHOP "CHOREOGRAPHY LAB"

Kadioglu Zeybegi - Groove & Isolation Lab is a choreography workshop for the old-school lovers, the groovers, and the isolation nerds. Autoral Choreography created by Thais Carvalho with one of the Turkish classic songs from the legendary Okay Temiz “Kagioglu Zeybegi”.

Instead of just “here’s the combo, let’s film”, dancers move through a creative process: groove drills, layered isolations, tension and release, plus a co-created section where the group helps build part of the choreography.

Using some elements of Thais’ Six Pillars of Creation method, this class feels more like a living lab than a copy-and-paste choreo session. Dancers leave with a full piece and new tools to create their own.

This session is built for: ● old-school fusion and tribal lovers ● people who enjoy juicy grooves and musicality ● dancers obsessed with isolations, layering and texture

We break away from standard follow-me structure: ● a phase to explore shapes, accents and pathways from the track ● a phase to lock in the architecture of the choreography ● a phase to add intention, tension and clarity ● and a co-creation moment, where the group helps build a section of the piece together

WORKSHOP "GORGEOUS GOO"

Exploring the qualities of movement in Datura Style’s Gooey Steps Vocabulary.

This class will juice you like a lemon, and fill you up at the same time! Come and squeeze every last delicious drop out of each and every movement as we explore some of the lush, juicy, Gooey Steps and Movements of the Datura Style group improvisational vocabulary, working in slow-motion.

We’ll learn some fundamental movements, play around with duration, explore the role of isolation in slow movement, carefully flirt with the edges of our range of motion, and look at how to achieve and make the most of the mesmerizing contrast between bound and free qualities of movements that often feature in Datura Style.

You’ll learn some combos and their cues, but the main focus is on *how* to achieve the richness in quality of movement, rather than on acquiring a long list of new moves. We’ll bliss out at the end with a lovely lead and follow flow drill of everything we’ve covered. Bring water, a sweat towel, a notebook & pen, and an open mind.
